A deputation of Knights of Labor placed before the Commission a proposal to make certain reductions in duty, and suggested that the loss be recouped to the Treasury by taxing all lands, and abolishing all exemptions from land tax. He was " pulled up " by the Chairman (Major Stewart) and i the other members of the Commission, but Mr Mackenzie continued to make such strong remarks that the examination of the deputation abruptly closed, and the chairman was glad to be rid of the Knights, and soothe the ruffled feelings of members.
