A HINT IN TIME TO THE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAH. Sir, — A few miles out, when the Kiwitea and the Makino streams are in communicating distance of one another, a very high flood causes the Kiwitea overflow to find an outlet by the Makino. The Makino alone, in flood, creates a large amount of destruction to town property ; and if through an accidental obstruction — a tree for instance — the main body of water in the Kiwitea should be turned into the Makino, the damage to bridges, streets, and town property would be enormous. lam informed that such an event could be prevented by a comparatively small expenditure at the present time, and if that is the case I think the Borough authorities will be very wrong if they neglect to attend to it — although it may take them a trifle beyond their boundary. N.B. — The dangerous part is in the vicinity of the properties of Messrs Fry and Bell. I am, tfcc, Sense and Sensibility.
