(Per Press Association.) London, May 12. Lord Rosebery is cruising in the Channel under medical advice. The Times does not question that the French claims of British territory in the Niger involve a monstrous pretension, and adds that the good feeling existing between London and Paris alone prevents the Company's troops from ejecting the French. May 13. The British, French, and Russian joint scheme of reform demanded in Armenia has been handed to the Sultan. Paris, May 12. The French religious orders are in* tensely excited concerning the proposed taxation affecting thernselvep, and are disputing it. The cardinal, priests, bishops and 150,000 monks are affected by it. Bishop Puget urges that the tax be paid under protest, as refusal means war against the State, and a casus belli between France and the Vatican. Victoria. (8.C.) May 12. The Government complains that the United States has not yet paid the Behring Sea award, and that the fishermen are therefore practically penniless, and are unable to refit for the present season.
