Birmingham Notes.
« _ The first of a series of fortnightly meetings in connection with the Debating Society will be held in the Druids Hall on Wednesday evening. The Birmingham Hotel, which is owned by Mr T. Lowes, who has conducted it for the past eight years, is about to change hands, Mr ..Lowes having let it to Mr A. W. Harrison, lato of Palmerston and formerly of Marton, During his eight years sojourn at Birmingham Mr Lowea has made many friends. He went to the settlement shortly after the Block was sold, and established an accommodation house, which has developed into one of the best country hotels in the island. Mr Lowes has been careful in the conduct of his house, and he and his family are noted for their hospitality. His successor, Mr Harrison, will take possession on or about June 11th. We understand it is Mr Lowes' intention, after he has finally settled all business matters, to take a trip Home, where he will speud a few months before returning to New Zealand. A new industry is likely to spring up in the Kiwitea, namely, the cultivation of clover for seed.
