Placke, a young Dutch swimmer, whose exploits in Auckland are well known, is anxious to get up a match to swim Cook straits The cable steamer Terranora resumed the work of laying the cable to-day, and it is expected to be comDleted some time to-night. The repairing of the three-core cable will be then undertaken. An elderly man named Alex. McDonald who recently came from Bangitikei, is missing since Thursday night.
