Mr Ward, in the course of his address before the London Chamber of Commerce, said the financial institutions of Nevr Zea« land were flooded with inquiries as to what openings existed for foreign capital. Great Britain was losing a large amount of trade by her lack of energy and refusal to subsidise steamers, whereas foreigners were^keenly pushing into any openings available. _ He urged that the critics in the financial press neglected to compare the debt and private wealth of New Zealand per head. .
