A MISSING PASSENGER. (Per Press Association.) Auckland, April 29. At the inqnest on Miss Elizabeth Britles, found dead in her house at New-ton-street, the medical evidence was to the effect that she died of inflaination of the chest, but was otherwise a healthy woman. The jury were not convinced and returned an open verdict of found dead with no marks of violence, but how or when she came by her death there was no evidence to show. Tbe agent of the Labor Bureau received instructions from Wellington to put on 20 men road making at Rotorua on the co-operative principle in order to lessen the unemployed. Miss Parkes, Lady Superintendent of the Hospitr.l, has resigned. Her complaint, like Dr McGills, is that the action of a section of the Board prevents en foreeruent of discipline. At a meeting of the Board, a resolution was carried inviting the honorary medical staff to a conference with the view of appointing an elderly married medical man with high qualifications to the post of surgeon at the hospital. This Day. A steerage passenger, J. Garry, by the Anglian for Auckland was found missing betAveen 7 and 8 o'clock on Sunday evening. He is believed to have jumped overboard. Reei ton, This Day. T. McLaughlin, a pioneer residentand successful mining speculator, died at 5.30 this morning after a long illness.
