The Half-Holiday.
[Per Press Association] Auckland, April 27. The Onehunga shopkeepers issued a notice intimating their intention of closing on Wednesday, and determination to keep open on Saturdays. A telegram was sent to the Hon. Mr Reeves, and in reply one was received to this effect : "If there is any illegality in connection with the proceeding of the Council in the matter it was open for anyone to bring a case before a Magistrate." This the shopkeepers decline to do, so they leave it to Ministers and Societies to take legal action. This Day. Tbe position of tbe affair at Onehunga is not quite accurately described in the Auckland telegram. The Department state that the Council originally fixed Saturday for the holiday. The Minister was then written to by a shopkeeper who objected to Saturday and claimed tbe Council's act was informal. He requested the Minister to take steps to upset Saturday and it was this Mr Reeves declined to do.
