Freetrade in New South Wales.
(PBE PRESS ASSOCIATION) Sydney, April 29. A deputation of merchants and importers waited on the Premier to-day, and asked him to adopt a sliding scale for wiping out the customs duties, otherwise the holders of large itocks would be great losers. They were fully in accord withjthe freetrade priciples of the Government, but deprecated the extreme action. Mr Eeid said plenty of warning had been given of the intentions of the Government, and he distinctly refused to agree to the request. As the colony had always been for f reetrade he would give it a chance of knowing what true freetrade really was.
