The shooting committee of the Manchester Bifles met after parade last evening. Present — Lieut. Halcombe (in the chsiir), Sergts. Petherick, Aitken, Parker, Vols. Scott, Evans, Saywell and Wilson (secretary). It was decided that owing to the lateness, of the season and having another competition in hand the disposal of Captain Kirton's Martini rifle he held aver until next season. Resolved, that the Captain be asked to procure 500 rounds of snider ammunition at once as there is hone on hand to continue the competitions. T Vol, T. After some discussion as to ways and means it was decided that : -the \ committee make no arrangements at present ;fpr prize com* petitions on May 24th. The Manchester Rifles date from Jane 11th, 4879, and, volunteers who have served in the ' corps continuously from that date will be entitled to long service medals in June, 1895.* The Manchester Rifles .'paraded for inspection last night _in the Assembly Rooms. .After ; the -inspection. was completed Sergt. Major Macmillan instructed the men in the new bayonet exercise and they all acquitted themselves very creditably. Several recruits presented themselves. Parades for May are advertised to-day. During the evening Captain Kirton stated that Lieutenant Halcombe had paasod a most successful examination for a commission, and his appointment would be gazetted at once.
