Anti-Chinese Demonstration.
(Per Press Association., Wellington, April 24. The Anti-Chinese demonstration at the Theatre Royal this evening was crowded. Tbe Mayor presided, and among the speakers were the Hon. W. P. Eeeves, Messrs Or. J. Smith, W. W. Collins, and G. W. Russell, M.H.R's. Resolutions WGre carried that legislat on was imperatively necc* sary to prevent the influx of Chinese into the colony, and that the poll tax ehould be raised to £100. Each speaker referred to the fact that the fruit trade in Wellington was almost entirely in the hands of the Chinese. At the close of the meeting an antiOhineee League was formed.
