A SHOCKING DEATH. (Per Press Association) Sydney, April 24. Alfred Wall, a profeeaional runner, while suffering from the DTs, escaped from a room partly dressed, and rushed into the house of a neighbor and jumped out of a window into the street. His head was smashed to pieces. Death ensued from the injuries. A meeting of merchants appointed a deputation to ask the Premier to remove the Custom duties gradually, otherwise holders of large stocks of dutiable goods would be severe losers. Melbourne, This Day. The half-yearly report of the National Bank shows profits of £15,000. The Directors recommend the payment; of a dividend of v per cent on preference capital. __^______.__.^__
