FEILDING.

There was only a small attendance at the householeers' meeting in the Feilding schoolhouse last evening to receive the report and balance-sheet of the out-going committee and to elect a new committee. On the motion of Mr W. Carthew, Mr C. Bray (junr.) was voted to the chair, and read the report and balancesheet as follows : — " Report of the Feilding School Committee for the year ending April 22nd, 1595. " Gentlemen, — When your committee took office on April 19, 1894, there was a credit balance of £7 19s 5d and outstanding liabilities amounting to £7 3s lid. On leaving office there is a debit balance of 5s lid and outstanding liabilities {amounting to £2 2s 6d. The capitation from the Education Board for the year was £35 Is 4d, which is inadequate to carry out the requirements of the school, as the cleaning of the school and outbuild ings alone cost the committee £2d annually, leaving only a balance of £6 for repairs and incidental expenses, on which, during the year, the sum of £31 7s 6d has been expended. The subject of enforcing the compulsory clause of the Education Act has been frequently discussed, but on account of the limited school accommodation it has been deferred. We are pleased to state that this will soon be obviated, as tenders have been called for building a new class-room. During the year the school has been ventilated, painted, new tanks erected, and the school generally improved. Your committee would urge on parents the necessity of sending their children regularly to school, as in the September quarter, if only two more children had attended, it would have increased our annual capitation £4. The attendances have now reached the point that for every additional scholar the committee will receive 2s 9d annually from the Board, which should induce the new committee to take steps to increase the attendance as soon as the new class room is completed. The concert given by the children, which realised over £16, helped the committee to undertake necessary work which otherwise could not be taken in hand, and the thanks of the committee are due to the head-master and his assistants for giving such a helping hand in time of need. On account of the Easter holidays the annual examination has been postponed until May Ist and 2nd. The attendances for the four quarten were.— lß94, June— 26s 41 ; 1894, Sept. —249-9; 1894, Deer. 275 06; 1895. March — 281*45. (Signed) W. Caethew, Chairman." Receipts. — To balance in hand, April 19, 1894, £1 19s 5d ; To grants for ordinary incidental purposes, £85 Is 4d ; To voluntary contributions for general pur« poses, 5s 9d ; To proceeds of concert, £16 15s Id ; To balance, 5s lid.— £6o 7s 6d. Expenditure. — Br cleaning school and outbuildings, £26 0a Od ; To fuel for school use, £3 0s Od ; By repairs to buildings, fences, and furniture, £31 7s 6d. — £60 7s 6d. Certified to as correct by E. Goodbehebe (auditor), and W. Cabthew (chairman). Resolved, That the report and balancesheet as read be adopted. The election of a new committee was then proceeded with, the following being elected : — W. Carthew, 16; H. Worefold, 16 ; W. G. Haybittle, 15 ; R. J. Thompson, 15 ; W. G. Shearer, 14 ; J. Taylor, 13 ; C. Bray, junr., 12 ; J. Gould, 11 ; A. W. Parker, 8. Messrs C. Wickham, A. Coles, and T. Copestake were also nominated. Messrs Wilson and S. Andrew acted as scrutineers. Votes of thanks to the retiring committee, scrutineers, and chairman closed the meeting. The newly-elected committee met after the householders' meeting, and Mr H. Worsfold was elected chairman on the motion of Mr Carthew. Mr Parker was elected secretary and treasurer fo» the ensuing year.
