The Half-Holiday.
[Per Press Association.! Auckland, April 18. At a meeting of shopkeepers and others to day, ninety persons who were present approved of the action of the City Council in proclaiming Wednesday the half-holiday, thus minimising the loss of the shopkeepers. A reso- j lution was passed to ask the Auckland j members to represent to the Govern- i aient the disturbance caused to trade j by the Shop Act. i Gistjorne, April 18. j At a special meeting of the Borough I Council resolutions were unanimously passed rescinding the resolution passod in January last (fixing Saturday as the day for the weekly half-holiday), and declaring that for the remainder j of the current year Thursday shall be i observed. This course was adopted on the advice of the Council's solicitor. The Mayor disagreed and declined to take part in the proceedings.
