Disastrous Earthquakes in Austria.
MANY LIVES LOST. (Per Press Association.) Vienna, April 16Further reports show that the earthquake was much more serious than at first reported. It affected the whole of Southern Austria and the north of Italy. The population of Lavbach are camped in the streets. Thirty-one shocks were felt, accompanied by incessant subterranean roars of the most terrifying description. Every house in town was damaged and the railways in the locality were so twisted about as to be unworkable. Many lives were lost. London, April 16. At the Austrian city of Trieste, on the shores of the Adriatic, thousands have taken refuge in the public gardens, and tho streets are blocked with panic-stricken citizens on their knees pra_ing. At Frame, a seaport of Hungary, a theatrical performance was taking place, hut the first shock emptied the theatre, and caused a complete panic in the city. Every smsll boat was filled with fugitives who wished to take refuge on board the ships in the harbour At Arco, Gorz, Celli and Velden much damage was done, and at Krainburg the damage done is enormous
