AUTUMN MEETING.

The weather was fine for the Feilding Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting, which commenced yesterday, when the attendance in the afternoon numbered upwards of 1000. The course was in fairly good order after the recent heavy rains, being a little soft in places. The racing was very good throughout the day, the only easy win being that of TJmslopogaas in the Hack Flying. The winners were difficult to detect and consequently the divideuds were not large. Allau-a-dale was tbe hero of the meeting, winning the Flying and Winter Oats handicaps, with C. Fairbrother in the saddle. 0. Jenkins also rode a couple of winners. The starting waa all that could be desired, the starter, Mr E. Wood, getting the horses away well together. The judge, Mr W. H. HnrtgiU, had to be on the alert as several of the finishes were very close, notably in the Hack Flat and Winter Oats. Mr E Goodbehere was in his old position of Secretary, and performed his arduous and numerous duties in an efficient manner, while Mr 0. Cooper carried out the duties of clerk of the scales and Mr K. G. Edwards that of clerk of the course, Tho stewards, Messrs H. L. Sherwill, J. Saunders, W. A. L. Bailey, H. Bastings, B. Gosling, W. A. Sandilands, and E Jackman, were attentive to their several duties. The arrangements were, as usual with this Club, as perfect as possible. Owing to th« wet weather compelling the Committee to postpone the meeting from Easter Monday and Tuesday tht atteudauc was not so large as lasl year, with the consequent falling ofj in the amount passed through the machine, the amounts being £2486 for this year and £3234 for the firs! day last year. Prior to the Had Hurdle race being started, Defence was soil under the hammer by Mi Macmiilan for £15, Mr W. Going round the back of the course and into the straight Allan-a-dale, Zanella, Kalmia, Tuhiwai and Cyrus raced in a bunch, finishing iv the order named, the winner being a short head in front with Kalmea a length away third. Time, lrnin 50sec. Totalisator, £800; dividend, L 5 12s. First Handicap Hack Flying, of 30 soys; second horse to receive 5 soys. from the stakes. 179, Mr L. F. Holmes' Umslopogaas, Bst 181 b (W. Holmes) 1 60, Mr W. G. Trask's Reality, 7st 61b (C.Jenkins) 2 43, Mr M. Coleman's Allington, Bst 31b (J. Morris) ... 3 Also started—Aintree 6st 91b, Tophorn 6st 91b, Totea 6st 91b. Aintree carried lOlbs overweight and Totea 81bs over. A good start was effected, and Umslopogaas went in front, followed by Allington. Won hard held by about two lengths, Reality, Allington, and Totea being close together in the order named. Time, lmin, 25sec, Totalisator, £353 ; dividend, £115s.
