Manawatu County Council.
The monthly meeting' of the above Council was held last Thursday when there were present — Crs, Hansom (chair), Wilson, Hammond, Taylor and Robinson. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was read and dealt with : — Prom the chairman of the Manawatu Road Board, stating that unless the Council pay their share of contract monies for the Awahuri bridge before the 9th April the work must be stopped, as the Board had no money to carry on further work. From C. Edwards, asking 1 the Council to stump and form 7 chains of Trent street, Campbelltown. From T. Anyon re detention of flour. From Bank of Australasia re overdraft. From C. Bray, plans and specifications of the Oroua protective works. From the Government re the ne\T name for Campbelltown North. Proposed by Cr Hammond, seconded by Cr Wilson, " That cheques to the amount of £200 4s lOd for the separate account, and i-392 2s Id for the general account be handed to Bank of Australasia to meet the balances due on the 31st March." — Carried. Proposed by Cr. Bauson, seconded by Cr. Wilson, " That the Bank of Australasia be requested to grant the Council an overdraft for current expenses during the year ending the 31st March, 1896, to the amount of .£ISOO. "—Carried. Proposed by Cr Ransom, seconded by Cr Taylor, " That the Government, bo asked to rename Campbelltown Kopani," — Carried. Proposed by Cr Ransom, seconded by Cr Wilson, " That the Clerk write to the Minister of Lands and point out that if the name of Manawatu is substituted for Palmergtou North, endless confusion is likely to arise, as there is a County of that name in which Palmerston North is situated,; and that the Minister be asked not to accede to the request." — Carried. Proposed by Cr Taylor, seconded by Cr Robinson, " That the account amounting to i'32B 18s 2d due to the Manawatu Road Board on account of repairs to the Awahuri bridge be paid." — Carried. Proposed by Cr Ranson, seconded by Cr Robinson, " That the Action of the committee in accepting tenders for protective work and new county chambers be agreed to." — Cirried. TKNOKKS. The tenders for McDonelTs Live were opened, and Cr Robinson proposed and Cr Hammond seconded, •• That the tender of Geo. Guild be accepted at £1 6s per chain."— Carried. The month's accounts having beeu Pawed, the Council adjourned.
