New Zealand team the former made 88 and Now Zealand made 68. A movement is afoot among the business men urging the Government to press on the Pacific cablo. The body of the late Governor Duff has been removed from its temporary resting place, to a site specially chosen by Lady Duff aud the gift of the trustees of the Waverley Cemetery. Lady Duff, in a grateful letter, refused the offer of the Premier and Government to erect a monument, as she is fulfilling the special desire of her husband by erecting one at her own cost. The report of the Civil Service Commission makes drastic recommendations, including proposed retrenchment to the extent of a (juarter of a million, also the appointment of a permanent Commission of three. 13risbank, April 12. The Novmanby and Annan rivers are in high flood, and the water is thirty feet over the Normanby bridge, and fourteen feet above that over the Annan. The telegraph lines are under water, aud a wide area of country in the vicinity of the rivers named is inundated. Newcastle, April 12. The Wallsend miners have decided to withdraw the strike notice, and as this is one of the largest lodges in the district, it is considered that their action points to tho general collapse of the threatened strike.
