The directors were entitled to the first information, hence the witholding of the news on the field. On his arrival ten days ago a start was made to open up the golden hole, and the first shot disclosed the fact that the gold did not go deeper than the block in sight. Good gold is still being found, but as yet too little work had beeu done to enable an opinion to be formed. He thought the mine should be thoroughly tested as well as the seven adjoining blocks purchased by the companj 7 . The cutting out of the rich shoot came as a tremendous surprise to him.
