Mr Pirani, M.H.R., will address his constituents at Colj'ton to-night. The Assessment Court for the Kiwitea County sat at Cheltenham to-day. A grand sacred concert will be held in the Kiwitea Hall on Good Friday night. The Feilding Bowling Club will meet at 8 o'clock this evening in Mr Giesen's office. Captain Edwin wired at noon to-day : Glass further rise, with wind decreasing, and frost to-night. A service of song entitled " Home> Sweet Home," will be held in the Army Barracks on Good Friday night. A writ claiuiiug i; 200 damages has been served on Mr C. M. Whifctiugton, editor of the Waipawa Mail, at the instance of Mr H. P. Cohen, of Napier. A man avlio paid a Xo note to the totalisator at the Napier Park races for i'l, received the larger note back in a M dividend by mistake. A man in Sydney recently received a sentence of six months' hard labour for stealing a pineapple. Another, who killed a fellow prisioner in gaol, received 12 mouths. Notice is given to-day that persons trespassing ou sections 5 and 7, Fowlers (known as Mrs Hastie's farm) will be prosecuted. Mr James, architect, has accepted the tender of Mr Banks, of Fowlers, for alterations and additions to the dwelling bouse of Mr Levett, in the Kiwitea. Mr F. Y. Lcthbriclge gives notice that poison has been laid ou sections 1, 2, o, 4, 5, Manchester Block, near Mount Taylor, and that trespassers will be prosecuted. 1 Mr Ben Johnson and two sons of Mr ■ Northey were rendered very ill by eating > tinned sardines on Saturday, and it was i found necessary to summon medical aid.— Napier Herald. We have to acknowledge receipt of complimentary tickets for the concert and dance to be held in the Public Hall, Colyton, in aid of the Church of England organ fund. The tents for the volunteers at the Encampment, were all erected last night, showing that the men of the Permanent Artillery are smart at the . work. A meeting of the Manawatu Rugby Football Union will be held at the Royal ' Hotel, Palmerston, to-morrow evening, at 8 o'clock, to arrange fixtures for the coming season. ! Notice is given by Mr Joseph Ingley, farmer, that, at the next meeting of the Manchester Road Board, he will apply for a license to slaughter great and small cattle on section No. 18, subdivision O, in the Manchester Block. The members of the Feilding Fire Brigade held a capital practice in the Square last evening. With continual practises the members are acquiring a degree of expertness which calls forth remarks of approval from the public. Until the shootiug season commences in the Wellington district of the Acclimatisation Society, game hitherto located on the "other" side of the Rangifcikei river, where shooting is not permitted, have migrated to " this " side — so sportsmen say, and they never lie 1 Further public works expenditure is announced. A sum of £1000 has been authorised for expenditure m th-edging Nelson harbour and another sum of .£'looo, representing the balance of cooperative work at the liunterville end of the North Island Trunk Railway, has been passed by Cabinet. On Good Friday a banquet is to be held at the Primitive Methodist Parsonage, for which elaborate preparations arc being uuu)e, and, given Roe weahher, a laryo attendance is expected. There will be: a dinner at 12 noon and a social gathering a 5 p.m. The charge to each will be one shilling. A fact worth knowing is that magnesia is the iirst antidote in cases of pbosporous poisoning. Dr Tripe mentioned this at the inquest held at Wellington, on a girl who had died after swallowing match heads. Tiie doctor added that magnesia should be kept in every house where there were children. —Post. What is likely to prove an interesting bicycle road race is to take place tomorrow evening between two novices, Messrs W. Giesen and Clarke, who, it will be remembered, bad a " flutter " on the Oval recently, Giesen getting hhe better of it by a few inches. It is said that the race is for something more than " honor and glory," and doubtless the contest will be a fast and furious one. The track will be from tne top to the bottom of Manchester street. A grand sacred concert will be given in the Feilding Assembly Rooms on Good Friday night by the Wellington Garrison Band, They will play, amongst a variety of other items, two or tjiree selections arrarjged by E. Godfrey, England, Bandmaster. Royal Horse Guards, which have not been played by auy other bands south of the line. Nothing will be played at the concert that will offend the strictest Sabbatarian, and the pieces which are not sacred are those whicn no exception can be tafcea ss the music is not wedded to auy unseemly words. The concert should be a brilliant .success.
