Lawn Tennis Notes.

The tennis season 1804-95 closed on Saturday last. Notwithstanding the boisterous weather the final ot the Ladies' Handicap was played off, Mrs Hart»ill beating* Miss A. H. fry 4-G, 0-4, 7-5, atter an interning and evenly contested game. The other events have already been decided. Mrs Hurtgill won the Ladies' Championship, Mr Barton the Gents' Championship, and Mr Brabant t!ic Gents' Handicap. The play all round this s.ason has been iuir, though it can be seen there is room for improvement wher> the result of the matches played with outside clubs is cunsideie.i. Three •Matches wßre played during tho season, one against Wanganui — in which match Feilding won an easy victory — and two against l'almerston, both of which Palmerston won. The courts played remarkably well all through (he season, and have worn better than was expected They are to be weeded and top-dressed this autumn, which ought to put them in first class order for next year, Thanks are due to the ladies who provided afternoon tea, owing to whose efforts some very pleasant afternoons were spent on the courts. At the beginning of the season improvements were done on the ground. A verandah, bath room and dressing rooni were added to the old pavilion, and the addition ia both useful and ornamontal. It only remains for the club to purchase the ground, which they are in a position to do, and iutend doing when the leaso expires in May next.
