An Extraordinary Fatal Accident.

(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, April 8. On Saturday afternoon a girl named Elizabeth Diiffall, aged 13 years, the child of Willi'im Duffall, a farmer at Ashley, lost her life in a peculiar and distressing manner. It appears that Mrs Dnffall was washing up the dinner things and had in her hand a carving knife, which was sharp and worn with use to a tapering point. The girl, in attempting to pass her mother, came in contact with the point of the knife, which entered her left side and penetrating the heart caused death within three or fonr rnirmtea. The handle of the knife being forced against the mother's breast gave the blade penetrating power and it entered to a depth of four or five inches. At the inquest a verdict of accidental death was returned.
