Christchurch Hospital Scandal.
[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.! Chbistchurch, April 7. A public meeting ia reference to the hospital was held on Saturday night in Oddfellows Hall which was densely crowded, about 800 being present. Mr G. J. Smith, M.H.R., presided. Addresses were delivered by Mr G. W. Russell, M.H.R., Mr T. B. Taylor, Rev. H. 0. M. Wat6on and R. M. Taylor. The following resolutions were carried unanimously : — " That this meeting records its emphatic protest against the action of the Hospital Board in dismissing Nurse Cameron without granting her an opportunity of being heard in defence to any charge that may haye been made against her, and that in view of the serious charges against the hospital management and the incomplete and unsatisfactory nature of Dr Mac gregor's report, this meeting demands from Government, in the interest of the institution and in justice to the j employees concerned, a full public inquiry by an independant tribunal." " That this meeting is of opinion that all bodies managing public institutions or administrating public funds should be elected by adult suffrage, only the ratepayers vote being exercised directly." " That copies of these resolutions be forwarded to the Premier, the Hon. W. P. Reeves, and the Chairman of the Hospital Board." Cheers were given for Mr C. M. Gray and for Mr Brown, the wardman whom the Board proposes to dismiss, and groans for the majority of the Board.
