THE CAMP.

The first instalment of appliances for the encampment arrived at the Feilding railway station this morning. Colonel Newall came by the mail train at noon, and active opsrations were commenced at once in preparing the lines. Mr Bastings has intrusted to Mr Pope the erection of the canteen. We have seen the plans, and can safely say the building will be very convenient and admirably adapted for its intended purpose. Mr Bastings has also arranged to have a large marquee placed within a few paces of the canteen, which will be provided with seats and other necessary accommodation for volunteers and visitors to the camp. While on the subject, we may say that the site for the encampment is an admirable one. It is on that portion of Mr Roe's farm on the side of the railway line (from Feilding) near the railway bridge on the east bank of the Oroua river. There is an abundant supply of good water, and several places in the river where the men can bathe. Special arrangements have been made for the convenience of the cavalry horses, as regards shelter and water. It is not yet known how many volunteers will be present, but a rough estimate gives about nine hundred as the outside. Colonel Newall and a party of twelve Permanent Artillerymen arrived in Feilding by the mid-day train to-day from Wellington to make arrangements at the camp for the Easter Encampment.
