Appointment of Governors.
CECIL RHODES DEFENDS HIM. SELF. (Per Press Association.) .London, April 5. It is offcially announced Sir James Fergusson was offered the Governorship of South Australia, but he declined the appointment. It is reported that the position has been offered to SirE. Grey, Under Secretary of the Foreign Office. Cecil Rhodes denieg the statement that he is intriguing against Sir H. Loch, and declares that when he left London for Capetown he was unaware of the intention of the Government to appoint Sir Hercules Robinson as Governor of the eolonv.
