London Wool and Produce Markets.

Messrs Barraud and Abraham's London agents, Messrs B. T. Turnbull and Co., report, under date February 22nd, as follows : — Butter.— There has been no improvement in the market, although the weather has been quite Arctic in its severity all over Europe, interrupting supplies of Continental. Shortly after we published our last report prices fell, but without increasing demand, and finest Danish was freely sold at 98s to 100s per cwt., with Colonial of the same description at 6s to 8s per cwt less. The continuance of hard frost, checking supplies from Denmark, etc., enabled sellers to obtain up to 112s for finest Danish, bringing prices back to the level of a month ago ; the heavy arrivals, however, from Australia and New Zealand to a market which was experiencing the declined demand caused by so many people ceasing to earn wages, prevented any rise in value being established. To day's market was very dull and irregular, and sellers have to take lower prices. Danish is quoted 4s down at Copenhagen for next week, and Colonial is 48 to 6s lower. To-days' quotations are :— Normandy, 86s to 1 16s per cwt; Eanish, 100s to 108s ; Australian and .New Zealand, finest 90s to 98s; Australian and New Zealand, good to fine, 82s to 88s ; Australian and New Zealand, inferior, 50s to 665. The Colonial arrivals have been : — From Australia — per Oroya, 15,172 boxes; per Australia, 13,700; per Massilia, 3i,42l ; per Orient, 20,485. From New Zealand — per Gothic, 8,965 packages ; per Kaikoura, 10,613, Cheese. — American finest has not been so eagerly sought, but the demand for fine is more active, in which New Zealand manufacture has fully participated. Prices are quoted : American, 46s to 51s per cwt. ; New Zealand, 44s to 48s. The arrivals from New Zealand have been — per Gothic, 4,265 cases ; per Kaikoura, 4,399 cases. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company report, over date of London, April Ist: — Tallow. — The market is better. New Zoaland fine mutton tallow is 24s per cwt., and good beef tallow 22s per cwt. Frozen meats — The mutton market is weak. Canterbury mutton is worth 3£d per lb, and Wellington mutton, 2 5-8 d per lb. The lamb market is weak. Prime New Zealand lambs are worth per carcase, 4£d per lb. Wool. — The sales closed firmly this day. Since clobo of last sales scoured merino super, greasy merino medium and inferior, and fine and medium greasy cross Hreds, are J-d per lb higher. Scoured merino medium and inferior are id to a Id per lb higher. Coarse greasy crossbred is £d per lb higher. Clothing and combing washed market reserve. Crossbred fine washed and fine scoured is neglected. Other descriptions unchanged. The total quantity sold during the past sales is 255,000 bales, of which 132,---000 bales have been taken for the Continent and 23,000 bales for America.
