The Rabbit Pest
(Per Press Association.) Adelaide, April 2. Rabbits arc devastating the country at Cooper's Creek and districts. They have completely destroyed the feed of many cattle, .vhich are of course dying. The pest is reported to be spreading in waves to the surrounding districts. Sydney, This Day. The Intercolonial Conference to devise the best means of dealing with the rabbit pest opened yesterday. Mr Carruthers said the object of the conference was to devise a scheme by concerted action for reducing tho number of the pest in a cheap aud wholesale inanuer, and making the rabbits contribute to the cost of their destruction by the sale of their skins and carcases. Since the introduction of the rabbit act in 1883 the New South Wales Government had spent considerably over one million sterling in destroying rabbits and protecting the land holders from the ravages of the pest.
