Fir,—With regard to the effect of war upon commerce, to which you referred in your leader of to-day, you do me an injustice (unintended of course, and your inference is a natural one) by stating tbat I advocated war. My article was intended as a modest attempt at dealing with " cause and effect," and no personal wish or feeling was expressed. I will now say, however, that for once I would be glad to believe that my premises were entirely false, for my voice is always for peace. I am, etc., The Contributor. Feilding, March 29th, 1895.
