At yesterday's wool Hales competition was spirited and prices were unchanged. The present series close on Saturday. Both of the next series will be limited j to 400,000 bales. There is fair enquiry ; for Bradford tops, "which have advanced a half-penny all round. Some Queensland beef touched 5 3-16 d per lb. The Bank of England returns published show the total reserve in notes and bul« lion to be £29,242,000 the proportion of reserve to liabilities being 65 80 per cent. Three months' Bills are discounted at I,\ per cent. New Zealand long berried, ex ware* house, 255, market quiet ; South Australian, 25s 6d, quiet ; Victorian do., 25s 3d, restricted. New Zealand frozen mutton — First quality, 3-yd ; second quality, 2|d. Lamb averages 4d per lb. Svgar — Best German beet, 9s 4£d ; Java, 10s 9d. No. 1 best Scotch pig iron, f.o b. in Clyde, 41s 9d.
