At a meeting of the City Council tonight, Councillor Trenwith moved tbat the Mayor proclaim every Wednesday afternoon a public holiday instead of Saturday till further, notice. A warm . discussion ensued. An amendment was moved that the question be adjourned for a month to give time for consideration. The original motion was carried against the amendment by 10 to 8. The Mayor voted for the amendment. On the" motion being carried, the Mayor stated he would communicate with the Mayor of Gisborne and ascertain how the holiday was changed there. At the Bame time he practically said he would be guided by the resolution of the Council. ,
