Stock Market.
O' Messrs Gorton and Son held ft sale of dairy stock at Cheltenham yesterday on behalf ot Mr A. Paine, and other vendors. The attendance was very good including buyers from Pohangina and Apiti, aad tbe bidding was exceptionally brisk, everything with the exception of a cow, one bull, and a few weaners, being sold under the hammer at fair average prices. Mr Paine's stock was sold without reserve, , the twenty-one cows (mostly to calve early in winter) offered realising from L 3 ls to L 8 12s, making an average of about L 5 15s. A 2§-yr Jersey bull sold for 30s, and a yearling Jersey heifer for L 2 5s and weaner calves for 26s ; fat pigs, 30s, porkers, 12s 3d and small weaners, 3s 6d. On behalf of other vendors seven cows in milk sold from L 4 6s to L 6 12s 6d making an average of about L 5 3s, On behalf of Mr A. Ferguson fourteen cowb were sold from L 2 18s Qd to L 4 le, an average price of about L36s ; sixteen months well-bred Jersey heifers, L 2 18s 6d and a half-bred Jersey bull, 3-jr old, 225. Messrs Abraham and Williams report ; —Our sales for the week were held at Colyton and Palmerston. At the former on Tuesday, patfcle were in short supply, a languid tone prevailed wbich guided business accordingly. Sheep in large numbers taxed the stowing capacity of the yards to tbe utmost. The bulk of the entry was cleared, the majority selling under the hammer : quality generally speaking was medium only. Yesterday at Palmerston the entry of cattle was moderate ; a dull tone pervaded the market, female stock and joung cattle being practically neglected. Steers met with limited bidding only, the Bales effected being done privately. Sheep which were largely in excess of advertised numbers, sold irregularly throughout. We quote :— At Colyton— Cattle : Springing heifers, £3 17s 6d ; do. cows, £4 10s to £5 15s ; yearlings, 26s 6d ; weaners, 20s. Sheep : Fat ewes, 4s 8d to 5s 6d ; breeding eweß, 3s 6d to 53 : culls, 2s ; store wethers, 4s 6d to 6s 2d : forward wethers 6s 5d to 6s 7d ; cull shorn lamba, ls 5d to ls 9d ; others, 2s 3d to 3s sd. Palmerston— jpltppfcy heifers, £% £js to _53. 7s ; fat cows, £§ l^s 5 2»yr helfers t £2 5s ; 2£-.jr steers, L2 lss 6d ; 3-yr do. L 3.5.5.. 5.5. Sheep : 2-tooth ewes, 6s to 6s lOd ; breeding ewes mixed ages. 5,3 : others, 5.3 6d ; fat ewes, 5s 3d to 5s 5d ; forward ewes, 2s 4d ; farward wethers, fijs 4d ; store wethers, 5,s Qd td Qs Qd ; shorn lambs, 3s to as Qd.
