♦ (Per Press Association.) Wellintgon, March 26. Among the passengers by the Ruahine from England is the Rev. W. McCrea, Presbyterian clergyman, who spent 17 years in the colony and returned to the Old Country seven years ! ago. He comes deputed by the Scotsman and other leading papers to obtain information as to the system of land settlement and financial working of the colony. Another passenger from London was Father O'Connor, who takes up duty in the archdiocese of Wellington. Auckland, March 26. At the Supreme Court sessions, A. H. Mow, for an attempted unnatural offence, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment. James Butler, 24 years of age, dropped dead in the street this afternoon. He was a native of Ireland and had no relatives here. The cause of death was heart disease. This Day. Arrived— The warship Katoomba from Auckland The Doric left Plymouth for Wellington, on March 23rd. Dunedin, This Day. The body ot a young man, supposed to be Henry Deary, a discharged steward from the steamer Omapere, was found floating in the harbour this morning. Invercahgill, March 26. A woman named Margaret Dallas, aged 82 years, fell in a house at South Riverton Jaafc night, and broke her neck. The woman and two others had been drinking. At the inquest regarding the fire which destroyed Wm. Mcßae's threshing mill, Lova Gorge, on the 10th January, the jury returned a verdict of wilful fireraising by some person unknown.
