The Great Boot Strike.
(Per Press Association). London, March 20. In the House, Mr Bryce stated that the Government were awaiting an invitation to intervene in the boot strike* and would readily mediate between the factory owners and the men. One cause of the strike is that the Unionists object to the system by "which several workmen contribute sections of ~ a boot. They contend that the plan of working in large gangs has the effect of - cheapening the cost of production, and that last year this system caused the value of exports to the Australian colonies to decline and allowed the United States to supplant English in the trade.
