Tariff Commission.
«. . (Per Press Association.) Chkistchurch, March 21. At the Tariff Commission to-day, E. G. Wright, chairman of the Christchurch Gas Company, asked that imported gas appliances should be placed on the same basis as electric light appliances, which are admitted free. J. Armstrong, manufacturer of knitted stockings, &c, requested assistance for the hosiery industry, and asked that yarns should bs admitted free. R. Hayward, of Hayward Bros., pickle and sauce manufacturers, asked for protection for their industry, as regarded inferior classes of imported goods. He stated they could compete successfully against a better class of goods with the present duties. G. S. Jakins, dairy produce merchant, asked that parchment butterpaper for wrapping butter for export should be admitted free. H. Nelson, of Nelson, Moatc, and Co., gave evidence regarding the importation of tea in tins and packets.
