Tariff Commission.
(Per Press Association.) Chkistchuech, March 20. At the Tariff Commicaion to-day, N. Oates gave evidence as to the bicycle in* dustry, asking for duty on the various parts of bicycles except tyres. He asked for 10 per cent additional duty on inn ported bicycles, and that on the finished parts to be raised from 20 to 30 per cent* T. White, silversmith, asked for duty on imported silver and electro plated goods which can be made in the colony, C. J. Clayton gave evidence concerning the bootmaking industry and asked for duty to be placed on children's boots, sizes 0 to 6. It was stated that those sizes were not made in New Zealand, but Mr Clayton stated that he had made hundreds of grosses of threes to sizes, and produced locally made samples. T. Waddell, manufacture* of steel &ud malleable castings, asked for a duty of 30 per cent on these articles. Another witness said he wanted a duty imposed on all carpets under half-a-crown a yard in value H. F. Wigrain asked that in connection with the proposed reciprocity with South Australia, that malt should be ad« mitted free into the colony. Evidence was given as to the fruit industry.
