The coast towns in West Australia are stocked with disappointed penniless wanderers. In a fit of insanity, the other day an Adelaide barber, after gashing himself with a razor, suicided by hanging. A Sydney paper states that cheap grazing and agricultural land over the Queensland border is causing mauy New South Wales settlers to desert the colony. Dredging operations have been com* menced for widening the outer bar of the Brisbane river from 200 feet to 300 feet in width, and to a uniform depth of 16-feet. The reduction by 10 per cent of the live stock rates on the Victorian railways has been determined upon by the Commissioners in consequence of the growing road competition.
