Wanganui Education Board.
♦ — The Board resumed yesterday (Tuesda3 r ) morning. Present — Messrs Bridge (in ihu chair), Sanson, Fry, Beckett, Carson, Baker, and the Rev. John Boss. Halcombe — From Committee, complaining that the school was understaffed. — Eesolved, That another pupil teacher be appointed. Bunnythorpe — From Miss Nellie Oakley, applying for appointment as cadet to Bunnythorpe ; appointment made. Ashurst.— From Miss Sarah Young, applying for appointment as cadet.— Referred to Executive. On the motion of Mr Baker, seconded by the Rev. John Ross, Mr G. - Carson was elected Chairman and Treasurer. Inspectors' Reports. — The Board went into Committee to consider Inspectors' reports. Loyal Orange Lodge — The following letter was read and received from the Secretary of the Palmerston Loyal Orange Lodge : — Purple Star L.0.L., No--18, Palmerston North, February 25th,. 1895. To the Secretary Wanganui Education Board. — Dear Sib. — Re inspection of Roman Catnolic Schools by the Board's inspectors. I am directed by the members of this Lodga to -write protesting against the request of the Catholic Archbishop to have the Catholic schools placed under examination by the Board's inspectors The Catholic schools exist in direct opposition to those of the Board ; therefore it was not right to ask that they should be examined by the Board's inspectors. Further, it would mean the Board's providng for the examination of all private scholars. Trusting the members of the Board will see the wisdom of the Auckland Board, and reject the same, I remain, yours truly, G. W. Archer, Secretary No. 18, L.0.1*. Pohangina. — Letter requesting approaches to school and residence be levelled and formed. — Agreed to. Letter applying for shelter shed. — Resolved, That the Committee be informed that the building is the property of the Committee, and the Board, therefore, has no power to deal with it. Feilding— Letter re ventilation, etc. Resolved to reply that before the letter had been dealt with the work had been authorised. Mar ton— Letter from Committee urging on the Board the necessity of enlarging the school. — Same reply as Feilding. Campbelltown — Letter from Committee bringing under Board's notice the urgency of erecting an additional room at the school. On the motion of Mr Sanson the matter was referred to the E xecutive with power to act. Technical School — The Clerk reported that Mr Blair, art master of the Technical School, had complained of the escape of sewer gas. — Matter to be attended to. — Chronicle.
