Ruapehu in Eruption.

Ohingaiti, March 12. Mr Peters, at Waioru, reports that after a good stiff gale on Sunday last Ruapehu burst out in immense volumes of smoke and steam from the crater with a terrible roar, followed by a heavy earthquake. The Wangaehu river is flooded with water like pea soup. Ngaruahoe is also active. In the evening Tongariro vomited smoke and steam. Three craters are in eruption. There was a cloudless sky and it was terribly grand. The hot springs are very violent in Tokaanu. One geyser, quiescent since the Tarawera affair,"began playing forty feet high. The oldest natives say that Ruapehu was never so violent before. Tourists are much impressed. On Monday Ruapehu was still very active.— Mercury. , A telegram was received by Mr Gray yesterday stating that Ruapehu was obscured by heavy clouds, so that it was impossible to see whether the volcano was still active.
