Kiwitea County Council.
RESOLUTIONS. The following business was transacted after we went to press on Saturday : — Mr Bath waited 011 the Council re the closing of the Oroua road in the Beacons6eld township by Mr Ross building his house on it and fencing across the road, thus preventing him reaching his sections. He explained the position of affairs, and requested the Council to take steps to have the road cleared — Mr Bath was informed that the Council would consider the matter, and. he then wihdrew. Messrs J. D. McGregor and Mr Bruster waited on the Council with reference to matters in connection with the Otara bridge, and the forming of bridle tracks, etc. Proposed by Cr Homer, seconded by Cr Morton, That the necessary steps be taken to raise a loan over a Special Rating District to provide one-half the cost of the approaches at Otara, to complete the road from Pemberton to Otara as a dray road, and to complete the metalling of the Kimbolton road from Rangiwahia to the end of the Pemberton Block. The Engineer to make an estimate of the cost of above works, and the Clerk to prepare rate roll of proposed district before next meeting. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Homer, seconded by Cr Jacobs, That this Council make an application for the Government grant for the Otara bridge to be held over and again placed on the estimates next year. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Jacobs, seconded by Cr Reid, That the Engineer direct Mr Ross to leave 19 feet clear for traffic on Haines' line, and that the Chairman take Messrs Goodbehere and Richmond's opinion ou the Council's power to give leave to erect buildings on a public road. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Homer, seconded by Cr Reid, That the Engineer call tenders, to close at next meeting of the Council, for various roads within the County, for which thirds are now in hand. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Homer, seconded by Cr Reid, That the offer of Mr Totnpkins, to metal two chains between Lowes' Hotel and his store, be accepted, and that tenders close at Birmingham on Saturday, March 16th, 1895. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Homer, seconded by Cr Morton, That tenders be called, to close on March 16th, for metalling the Kimbolton and Oroua Valley roads to the extent of money now in hand. Crs Morton and Howard, together with the Engineer, to open and deal with them. Proposed by Cr Homer, seconded by Cr Morton, That the Engineer give an estimate of the cost of completing and metalling the road from Birmingham to Mcßeth's line (via Edward street) and the number of sections to be rated, and the amount of special rate to cover interest. Particulars to be sent to Cr Homer. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Homer, seconded by Cr Jacobs, That on receipt of a cheque for £8 11s to cover the expense of again taking a poll for a loan to complete the Branch and Terrace roads, this Council will again take the necssary steps to raise the amount required, which will be refunded if the loan is carried ; the cost of raising the same to be added to loan. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Eeid, seconded by Cr Reid, That Cr Morton's offer of a site for County Chambers at Birmingham be accepted, and this Council expresses its most hearty thanks for his liberal offer. Proposed by Cr Shannon, seconded by Cr Jones, That Messrs Cox, Welford, and Wilson be paid for bush felling in the Ongo riding.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Eeid, seconded by Cr Jacob, That this Council agree to the request of the Pohangina County Council to contribute £485 18s 8d towards the Oroua bridge, provided the Government contribute their subsidy.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Morton, seconded by Cr Reid, That this Council cannot agree to Mr Jackson's request re slaughtering license, as the site is not snitable for slaughtering.— Carried.
