Birmingham Notes.

[FROM OVa OWN COBBESFONDENT. i A meeting of owners of land and others interested in Edward street was held to-day in Mr Lowes' Hotel. Mr Lowes was voted to the chair, and explained to the meeting that the object was to get Edward street formed and metalled to Mcßeth's line, about two miles. After some discussion a Committee was formed — Messrs G. Anyon, Burdekin, A. Laing, J. H. Richardson, and A. H. Tompkins as Chairman, whose duty will be to get signatures to a petition to the Kiwitea County Council, asking that body to raise a loan to do the necessary work. Warden Homer was present and promised to use his best endeavors for the ratepayers, and in the meantime he will supply the Chairman with a list of the owners of sections in the street. Mrs Hodge has presented to the Wesleyan Sunday School six Testaments, two Bibles, and one volume of a useful work. These gifts are much appreciated. Mr Hansen, draper, is about to erect a shop on the section he has purchased from Mr Murphy. A petition is to be presented to the Kiwitea County Council, asking that body to take a fresh poll for the loan for making Terrace and Branch roads. Through a misunderstanding some time ago with some of the ratepayers, the proposal was lost. It is now pretty certain if a poll be taken it will be carried.
