The Tariff Commission.

o (Per Press Association). Dunedin, March 7. At the Tariff Commission, the representatives from fruit importers attended, protesting against the increased duty on fruit and asking for reduction on same. What with damaged and bruised fruit the duty was equal to 35 per cent, ad valorem. New Zealand fruit-growers were not able to supply the demand. If they did, and packed it properly, there would be no occasion for an increased duty, as consumers would prefer locally grown.
