Country Schools.

A school is about to be erected at Beef Creek, on a site given by Mr R. MeKenzie, the timber for which is on the ground, and the erection is to be pushed on at once. The settlers interested are paying the whole of the cost themselves. They have engaged a teacher, whose salary they intend to provide, as the Wanganui Education Board declined to assist them in that connection. The building will be ready for occupation in a few weeks, when it will be opened -with an attendance of about thirty children. A school is also about to be erected at JRangiwahia by the settlers, "who are determined bo have ib where it is most required. The Pemberton school, "which is about two miles from Beef Creek and three miles from Raugiwahia, has been practically boycotted for some time past as the Education Board would not remove ib to one of the places named and have two in place of one, by which arrrangement about one hundred children would be enabled to attend school. The result of opening these schools, which will be free, no charge being made to children who attend, will be that the one at Pemberton will have to he closed. The settlers who are moving in the matter consider they have been unfairly treated by the Education Board, and they are j not alone in this opinion, as other school committees in this district have the same ground foi* complaint. It is to be hoped the members of the Education Board will re-cousider their previous decision, and endeavor to assist the settlers in the localities named, who have to contend with many difficulties not dreamt of in town.
