London Wool Market.

Messrs Barraud and Abraham furnish us with the following report dated January 25. received from Messrs R T. Turnbull and Co., their London agents : — The. first Beries of Colonial wool sales of the current year began on the 15th inst with about 250.000 bales available for the list, which meantime is entered to extend to 6th pros. The attendance was large and fully representative : the first day's catalogues met with some hesitation in bidding, and Australasian greasy merinos up to good, marked a decline of about 5 per cent. Good qualities (greasy and scoured) were comparatively unchanged from December rates Crossbreds ruled about the same, old clip and poor conditioned being 5 per cent below last quotations, new clip, light bright wool without change. The succeeding catalogues have met with fair favour, and the position established at the opening has been maintained, with a firmer tendency for good wools, especially of the clisa which America is competing for, and medium wools free from fault have recovered to about the rates ruling at the December sales. The French buyers are acting very cautiously so far, but the Americans are lively when lots that suit them come up (so far they have taken about 5,000 bales,) they are still on the " old lines " for staple, and can scarcely be expected to extend their attentions over other classes some time to come. Although wool is felt to be on a low level, the quantities coming forward are heavy, and sometimes quite indifferent whether they secure lots at their bids or not, and while there is some irregularity in the market still hopes are more freely expressed that prices will not decline further.
