BOROUGH AFFAIRS.
TO THE EDITOK OF THE STAR. Sir,—There is no doubt that Mr Giesen's offer, on behalf of the Colonists Land and Loan Corporation, is a most tempting and hberai one, and I should have taken some.notice of it if I had seen it before you published my previous letter. If I could only get over my antipathy to the break which is proposed to be made in the two principal thoroughfares in the. centre of the town, I should be one of the first to vote for itsacceptauc. There are one or two points, however, which (without professing to give any legal opinion upon them, as 1 have not sufficient facts before me) may possibly prevent the proposed works from being legally carried out. The first is the difficulty of closing or even diverting roads which have been open and fully used by the public for over twenty years, and the second is whether the Borough Council can borrow the money required for carrying out this and other works without taking the vote of the Burgesses, I am, etc., Saml. Goodbehere,. Feilding, 27th February, 1895.
