Correspondence.

BOROUGH AFFAIRS. TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sir,— l have read Mr S. Goodbehere's letter in your paper of the 23rd instant, aud am a little surprised at the result he has ai ived at, viz., that the Borough « ouceil pve desirous and willing to do the best tbey can in the interests of the Boi.'Ou_h. I quite agree with Mr Goodbehere that it is not necessary to call our Councillors " City Fathers " or any other nnmes, but that is beside the question, Mv Goodbehere says that " everybody knows that financial difficulties stand in the way of the Council engaging in many public works of vital importance to the town," but this phase of the subject falls to the ground in the face of my letter of the 22nd instant, in which our Corporation pledges itself to find all the necessary funds for the proposed improvements. And I feel sure that if our Councillors are wiving to do " the best they can " for the Borough they will deviate (which is quite a different thing to blocking) the road into the position it was originally intended to occupy, end no harm would be done to anyone. Two wrongs do not make one right, and, as the road was oiigiuaily wrongfully taken through the Square, instead of round, it is now the duty of the Borough Council to take steps to rectify this wrong, and I believe most of the ratepayers are in favor of this being done, if only someone in authority would ask for an expression of opinion and settle the matter one way or the other. I am, etc., E. Giesen, Manager CL. and L.C.
