Collision On the Manawatu Railway Line.
o (Per Press Association.) Wellington, February 25. This morning's passenger train from Palmerston to the city ran into a ballast / train whioh was standing on a siding at Tawa Flat on the Manawatu Company's line, Both engines suffered, and some damage was done to the rollina: stock but none of the passengers or officers were injured. The passengers and luggage were brought into town by another train after some delay. Later. Later particulars regarding the railway accident on the Manawatu Company's line show that the ballast train had been shunting at Tawa Flat, and when the passenger train from Palmerston North came along, went on the siding to allow it to pass by The points of the siding were by some mischance left open, and the consequence was that the passenger train instead of going straight on ran into tne siding and collided with the ballast train. A -scene of considerable confusion ensued. Great alarm was felt by some of the passengers, and women shrieked loudly and became very excited, but beyond a severe shaking no one was any way injured. The engine of the passenger train left the rails and cut up the permanent way for some distance.
