Loyal Manchester Lodge of Oddfellows.

TheLoyalManchesterLodge.LO.O.F., M.U., was held last evening, N.G. Bro A. Watson presiding. There was a large attendance, about forty members being , present. One new member was initiated and two proposed for initiation at next meeting. The principal business was the consideration of the new by-laws, complied by the District, and to receive P.P.G.M. Bro Bamber, of Wanganui, who is visiting the various lodges in the District to ascertain whether amendments are required in the by-laws. P.P.G.M. Bro Bamber, before proceeding to read the by-laws, took the opportunity of congratulating the Lodge on the rapid progress it was making. It gave him much pleasure at meeting such a large number of members. In referring to the registration of the district he said the matter had been under consideration for some time. At present the Wanganui District was the only unregistered district in New Zealand. The registration, although discussed for years past, had always been held over, but the time had now arrived when definite action should be taken in reference to this matter. He pointed out that without registration i the Societies had no standing at law, and therefore the district had been pressing this matter very keenly of late. As regards the new by-laws, which he intended to read to the meeting, he would state that they had taken considerable time to compile. They were not original, having been culled from various by-laws belonging to other lodges connected with the same Order in the Colony. He had not the slightest doubt that when application was made the new by-laws would be registered immediately. Bro Bamber then read the by-laws, and after a few slight amendments had been made, it was resolved, on the motion of P.P.G.M. Bro Nix, that the by-laws be adopted by the Loyal Manchester Lodge. It was resolved to procure 150, copies when printed. Ahearty vote of thanks was passed to Rro Bamber for the clear and concise manner in whioh he had explained tho bye-laws, and for tbe trouble he had taken in the matter.
