•— IMPRISONMENT FOR SEDITION. A MILITARY SCANDAL. TROUBLE AT A LABOUR SETTLEMENT. RAILWAY REFORM. Per Press Association.) Sydney, Feb. 21. In consequence of Mr Carruthers, Minister of Lands, deciding that single men must be struck off from the membership of the Board of Control of the Pittown labour settlement, the members have resigued in a body as a protest against what is considered to be hard and unjustifiable treatment, and have declined to perform any further duties. The Railway Commissioners have revised the freights, and made further considerable reductions on the carriage of produce, cattle and coal, and removed a number of anomalies in the charge for the carriage of general produce. Andrews, an alleged anarchist leader, has been sentenced to five mouths imprisonment for seditious libel. During the recent shearing trouble he published a pamphlet, which was calculated to bring the administration of justice into contempt. A grave military scandal is creating a sensation and engaging attention. A Court-Martial will be held on Monday on a captain in the permanent force charged with seduction, suggestion of an illegal operation, and endeavouring to induce a doctor to perform it.
