A Mysterious Shooting Case.
(Per Press Association). Wellington, February 18. A shooting case, about "which there is a good deal of mystery at present, occurred this evening. Samuel Shutler, a young man of 18 years, living in Elizabeth street, says he returned home at 5 o'clock and had not long been in the house when a man, who is unknown, entered and fired three shots from a _ revolver at him. He was alone at the % time, his mother being away on a holiday. One shot passed through his leg, breaking a bone. Shutler was removed to the Hospital. A neighbor, who heard all the shots, says there was an interval of 10 minutes between the first and the others, and though he watched the house saw no one go out. Shutler says the man escaped by the back. A revolver has been found in the back yard. This Day. * The shooting affair last night has been satisfactorily cleared up. It is ascertained the lad Shutler purchased a revolver yesterday, and as he had spent his wages concocted the story about a burglar in order to hide the fact from his mother, who was absent from town. He had been trying yesterday to borrow money to make good the deficiency.
