Accident to the S.S. Pukaki.
(Per Press Association.) | Hobaet, February 15, ' The Union Co.'s steamer Pukaki while entering the Mersey river to-day, and berthing alongside the Devonport wharf, ' struck a submerged rock, and knocked a ' large hole in her starboard bottom. The • vessel was making water so fast that she ■ had to be immediately beached to prevent 1 her sinking in deep water. The Pukaki baa a hole four feet long iv her bottom, but she is beached in a f good positiou. She had very little cargo 1 on board, but nothing is yet known as 1 to what extent is the damage. The Union company has made arrangements r for another steamer to take up the run--3 ning in place of the Pukaki. >
